Silent Space V0.0.69.69.0.0 is out!
Silent Space Version 0.0.69.69.0.0 , the post-jam Version is out! - And yes, I don't know anything about numbering game versions, hurray!
After over a month of waiting, the agonizing upload restriction on my game is finally lifted! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Wow, this was a really terrible game jam experience for me. It honestly made me lose a lot of faith in mankind and my desire to make games is completely extinguished. Of course that has nothing to do with the competition or placement, but I won't elaborate on that further.
For You:
Anyways this update is for the few players, who enjoyed the game and requested some more content.
For you guys, I even finished the entire first chapter and included a lot of surprises -especially at the end -hehe ^^
Now that the game is unshackled from the jam, that shall not be named, you can expect a lot more content, craziness and more mature language as 1 hour time constraint is a non issue now. And thank you again for playing Silent Space.
Feedback:
I tried including some feedback, which was mostly related to the difficulty. -Trust me guys, I already made the game super easy, so the jam reviewers could play through it without dying. Now post jam the 1st Boss can be facerolled. I don't know about the second. I personally think he is very easy. I would have liked to give him more mechanics, but I'm not sure if players would be able to handle that.
Also a huge thank you to everyone who tried to provide constructive feedback.
And I must apologize for not including: "FOV sliders, touchpad support, adjustment options for the colorblind, brightness sliders, trackball support, 3D vision, VR implementation, multiplayer, unlimited sprinting, auto-play, unrestricted saving, not considering every possible hardware configuration, online brokering, loot boxes and gacha systems, removing all enemies"
It's not that I don't hear you, but this was my first (jam) game and I mostly don't know how to do that kind of stuff...
I'm just glad it's playable from beginning to end....
Horror:
So is Silent Space a horror game? Uhm, I don't know? I have never played a rpgm horror game. Actually the only rpgm game I played, except for the jam games now, is Stardew Valley (and now somebody is going to tell me that it's not a rpgm game ^^). It has some "horror" aspects, but I would say it's as much a horror game as Half-Life1 is. Which was the obvious inspiration. Also it was interesting to see, that the first reaction many players had to a non turn based enemy, was to search for a closet to hide in...
I was also accused of over utilizing jump scares like everywhere, but there were actually none in game... There is now. (don't worry I made it super pixely, so it won't be as scary...)
Misc:
Also all those who made fun of the characters “will Feel Ashamed of their Words & Deeds” once the credits roll (twice..)
Hmm, maybe not.. A lot of story can be skipped by not exhausting the dialogues. And most players didn't bother to do so, from what I've seen.
The update includes:
-minor bug-fixes
-more polish of existing systems
-difficulty will be lowered as many players feel overwhelmed at the later stages
-a save point will be added before phase 3 of the boss fight and right before phase 1
-typo removals
-additional "guiding" star lights will be added to the chase sequence
-players will receive more hp and less fuel reserves for the boss fight
-several phases of the first boss will be shortened
-the boss firing rate will be lowered in phase 3
-tutorial prompt that will remind players to use the mouse for aiming and shooting
-more hand holding in general
-all alternate control schemes will be disabled, forcing players to use wasd+mouse from the get go (I thought this wasn't necessary, because the tutorial told players to use the mouse and almost all games on PC that involve shooting, intuitively utilize the mouse for aiming&shooting. Still some players were incapable of pressing the left mouse button and blamed the game to be faulty... a PC game...not even trying to use the mouse for shooting mechanics...just how?...)
-random hints will be displayed on the menu screen
-an additional map and scripted event for the insane players who somehow make it past the boss in phase 1
-all enemies and the player will now die instantly upon being dealt the finishing blow
-the observation deck map will be more illuminated by the starlight
-the Valkyrie gets an increased firing cone and a proper "death" animation
-save terminals will have their loop removed, which will allow for faster saving
-restoring power to an area will have a more impactful effect on the areas' lighting.
-The info center office maps will be added back into the game
-Nora a new story character gets introduced
-new character "Doge", the Belluga's vicious guard joins the crew
-more collectable/consumable items, item descriptions and Sparrow will make fun random comments after consuming various food items
-a new enemy type, the deadly "stormer husk" will be added
-a new enemy type, the immature acid spitter joins the fray
-a new enemy type, the Sin-oA will be added
-a new massive Boss the "All-Sin" will be added
-a stamina system will be implemented
-the flamethrower and fuel can now be crafted at the crafting station
-a survivor npc with optional quests can be found hiding in the offices
-more typos will be introduced with the expanded story line
-more hand animated cutscenes
-y and z will cater to QWERTY controls
-some minor fixes and changes (animations, but mostly sound volume adjustments etc) will be implemented
-a whole new area, playable character, weapon etc will be added
So what's next?
Sure the game still needs a lot more polish, custom menus, smoother animations, graphics, better writing etc. etc.
Especially the second part, since that was kind of rushed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I will of course update the game if there are any game breaking bugs, or do some stealth updates for minor stuff.
But other than that, the game will remain as is and my short foray into game making comes to an end here.
Thanks
I hope you will enjoy what is officially designated shovel ware... Thank you for playing and all the best to you guys,
Miha
